Stillbirths are an under-discussed part of the infant mortality picture in the United States, as are the racial disparities within those numbers. According to new data, the Ohio stillbirth rate for African-Americans is twice that of the whites, and it has been so for more than a decade. The racial disparities in Ohio mirror national trends in pregnancy complications, including stillbirths. In 2017, there were more than 850 known stillbirths in Ohio. According to the CDC, stillbirth statistics across the country are similar.
