Akufo Addo’s NPP fledgling nationalism caught on tape where party affiliates wants him to win at all cost, saying ‘believe in Akufo Addo”. He challenges the legacy of Nkrumahism to set up his own legacy. The president simply work on it by manipulating northerner’s emotional grudge and traditions. Akufo Addo’s followers are caught on tape discussing how to keep ‘order’.
His northern region Independence Day celebration, normally done in Accra, is strategically shifted to Tamale, a Muslim stronghold, to strengthen his hold on power and to disrupt the status quo.
A gradualist move to win the hearts and minds of ‘his people’ to rule Ghana as the right heir to the formation of the Ghana republic. Akufo Addo is a benign portly demagogue waiting his turn to be a ‘legend’ in Ghanaian history. He conveniently raises the wages of the military, dance with a few of their women. Viciously attack opposition through a local language press (UTV) and NPP youth vigilante groups.
One of the NPP executives, Ken Agyapong told his men to beat up investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw’s partner. The partner was killed by motorbike rider.
Ardent party local adherents, Abronye (an Asante regional party chief) and Ernest Bempah (NPP communications executive) use local Asante language media to viciously attack opponents. The two uses iron-clad wills to win all party elections and to gain popularity and favors in their party echelon.
What these party adherents exhibit are eerily familiar. Taking sides is a complete hogwash. The people who support such system still remain poor and unemployed.
